Enrol for live online Term 4 2021 classes

Hi all,

What a week we have had – the earthquake, the protests, the highest covid19 case number and the Footy grand final!  I hope you are all keeping well and have enjoyed the long weekend.

Please join me to congratulate the Demons – my team!

Since the pandemic COVID19 virus outbreak started in Melbourne in March 2020, TCA has taken an active step to adjust to this unprecedented situation by starting live on-line teaching using Zoom. Thank you to our dedicated IT genius Team - Frank and Graham who have made this possible.

We started Zoom in April 2020 for our TCA students, their friends/relatives and the general public. All classes were well received.  Many TCA students and Beginners joined these classes, enjoying learning, revising and practicing Tai Chi and Health Qigong. The practice has helped everybody, physically and mentally to cope with stress associated with the COVID19 lockdown.

We have also conducted classes for many organisations/companies such as the City Councils of Melbourne and Stonnington, Alfred Health and Think Pink. These classes have also been very well received.

Programs were posted free of charge on the TCA website, to assist participants’ practice whilst working from home, often with children, who were bored and naughty. These classes proved popular as they could choose a time to suit themselves unheeded.

Tai Chi and Health Qigong (HQ) are integral parts of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Fluid physical movements, mental cultivation and regulated breathing, guides and promotes the free flow of energy (Qi) throughout the body. This helps to balance Yin and Yang, improve general health and give a greater sense of well-being. Regular practice of Tai Chi and Health Qigong are proven methods of helping to improve the immune system, lung capacity and stress levels.  All non-essential businesses are closed, and workers are isolated at home.  It is imperative that health and wellbeing are maintained and strengthened. HQ is a simple and useful home-based practice for the prevention and post-recovery management of COVID-19.  We are committed to delivering high quality teaching and learning in the online environment.  Every effort is made to provide a program that challenges all students whilst being positive and supported.

In line with the Victorian Government Roadmap our TCA face-to-face classes will remain closed/suspended until at least Sunday 7 November. The high number of cases currently in Melbourne, makes it difficult to know exactly when we will be able to resume face to face classes this year. TCA has no choice, but to continue Zoom classes every week until we are allowed to return to a normal class environment.

Zoom Cloud Tai Chi Australia Class: Participant Guide

You do not have to have a Zoom account to attend a Zoom class. You will be prompted to download the software, once you have clicked on the link that you have been provided. You may also wish to create an account, but that is not required to participate in a Zoom class. It may take 5 - 10 minutes for this to take place so we suggest you start this progress well in advance of the class you wish to attend.

Please see the System Requirements at the following URL to ensure that you are ready to go:

https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362023-System-Requirements-for-PC-and-Mac

You will need a computer or device with a microphone to participate in a Zoom class.

If you do not wish to have an account, all you’ll need to do to participate is click on the link for the class that will be send to you via an email invitation.

Step 1:
Click on the link provided in the email.

Step 2:
Download the Zoom Desktop Client. Simply follow the prompts to download the correct Zoom desktop client for your computer and operating system.

Step 3:
Your Zoom Desktop Client will download. You will then need to install the client. Note that you may also download clients for IOS and Android devices.

Step 4:
Once you have downloaded the desktop client, you can now join the meeting.

You may have to click on the link again in the email to connect to the meeting, once you have installed the client. The Zoom desktop icon looks like a white video camera on a blue background.

Zoom User Tips

These are some following tips to help make sure you have the best experience. It is within your best interests to follow these recommendations to ensure a good quality class.

  1. Obtain a high quality web camera if you are using a desktop. For laptops, if your computer is less than 3 years old, the built-in camera (if it has one) should be adequate.
  2. Obtain a computer headset. This will greatly reduce the chance for audio feedback and improve your voice quality for those who are communicating with you on the other side. Headsets that connect via USB are the best choice.
  3. When possible, connect to the Internet with a physical cable connection, not just Wi-Fi. This will give you much greater speed and service.
  4. A laptop or desktop is preferred over a Smartphone or tablet.
  5. Try not to be outside. Wind and background noise makes your device’s microphone adjust and your voice may sound muffled.
  6. Don’t have several programs running while using Zoom. Close all unnecessary applications during your call so all processing power can be used to maximize the quality of your Zoom session.
  7. Pay attention to your background. Too much light behind you and you appear to be only a dark figure. Also, don’t have anything behind you that may be distracting to those who are on the other side.
  8. To counteract back lighting, make sure you have a good source of light in front of you and behind the camera that you are using with your computer.
  9. Pay attention to your attire. Don’t wear stripes or anything too bright. Solid colors are best.
  10. Avoid moving your head too much or “talking with your hands.” Video via Zoom is a little different than television, and too much movement can cause the video to pixelate and degrade.
