TCA performs at Lions District V5 Convention

Tuesday, March 15, 2016

Last October, TCA Instructor Judy Maynard attended the 2015 Lions District V5 Convention.

Held in Seymour, demonstrations of Tai Chi and Health Qigong were performed after the afternoon opening formalities were completed.

Little encouragement was needed for many Lions to join Judy in practicing the gentle Shibashi Form and much to the amusement and delight of her fellow Lions, District Governor Ann Eldridge, Judy’s sister, briefly joined her on stage. Demonstrations of Beijing 24 barehand and Dong Yue Broadsword provided a more dynamic perspective of Tai Chi and were received to loud applause. At the conclusion of the session, the audience again participated by joining Judy to practice the Lotus.

TCA enjoyed the opportunity to be part of the Lions District V5 Convention.

LaTrobe Confucius Institute – Learn Chinese

Friday, February 19, 2016

TCA has established a relationship with the Confucius Institute at LaTrobe University to help promote Chinese culture.

An understanding of chinese culture can be greatly enhanced with an understanding of the language. So The Confucius Institute is running language courses at the LaTrobe University CBD and Bundoora campuses, details below.

What is your new years resolution? If it's to challenge yourself, why not learn Chinese with the La Trobe Confucius Institute?

Meredith December 2015

We’re excited to share some of the big changes that we’re offering this year. 2016 will see a total of four Chinese language course intakes from March through to December at both our beautiful Bundoora campus and our new location at Collins Street in the CBD.

The first intake of our most popular class, Elementary 1, is now open for enrolment. This 8-week beginners course is 2 hours per week for 8 weeks. You require no prior experience with Chinese, and will learn how to understand Chinese phonetics and tones, how to read basic Pinyin, understand simplified characters, and learn word order. Your language learning experience will also be complemented with an exploration of culture.

For a low price of $160, choose between Monday or Tuesday night classes at Bundoora, or Wednesday and Thursday night classes on Collins Street. The Elementary 1 classes begin the week of 7th March.

We really like value, so we’re going to throw more of it your way.

When we teach Chinese, we don’t just give you the language, we also give you the culture. Your class will get to decide on a complimentary free 1 hour demonstration of either Chinese Kung Fu and Tai Chi, a Chinese historical and cultural highlights session, or a traditional Chinese medicine approach to a healthy life presentation.

March is fast approaching, so don’t miss out. Take the challenge and enrol now!

Please don’t hesitate to check us out on monthly newsletter.

TCA and Japan Health Tai Chi Association Triumph at Federation Square

Saturday, January 30, 2016

History was made when 30 Tai Chi Australia’s instructors and students joined 30 tai chi practitioners from Japan.

The Japanese practitioners were from the Japan Health Tai Chi Association (JHTA) and jointly demonstrated at the Amphitheatre at Federation Square, the home of tai chi and qigong in Melbourne on January 30.

As it was Finals Saturday at the Australian Tennis Grand Slam, the city buzzed with people.  Many crowded on the steps and along Flinders Street to enjoy the performance.

JHTA demonstrated traditional Yang style bare-hand form, Sword and stick forms, Xing Yi and Qigong Ba Duan Jin forms. Lead by TCA Chief Instructor Master Han Jin Song, TCA gave a polished performance of the Dong Yue Broadsword and Dao Yin Yang Sheng Gong Shi Er Fa.  Instructor Andy and his student, Trung demonstrated their skills in the Tai Chi Competition form to loud applause.  The finale was a joint performance by JHTA and TCA of the 24 Bare-hand Form – the most popular Tai Chi form all over the world.

In his opening speech, Mr. Yamamoto Takahiro said that before JHTA visited Australia, they searched the internet to find the best tai chi school in Melbourne and discovered Tai Chi Australia.  A week before they arrived in Australia Mr. Yamamoto realized he had met TCA Chief Instructor Master Han Jin Song in 1987 when Master Han was sent by the Chinese Wushu Association and Beijing Sport University to conduct a series of Tai Chi Workshops in Tokyo. Mr. Yamamoto attended these workshops as a student and JHTA Chief Instructor, Master Yang Jin was Master Han’s translator.  This past association between TCA and JHTA made the visit to Melbourne by the Japanese students far more special.

Afternoon tea was enjoyed at a local café where much lively discussion took place, new friendships were forged and in the case of Chief Instructor Master Han, old ones renewed.

TCA to join Japan Health Tai Chi Association in joint performance

Sunday, January 24, 2016

On Saturday January 30, 2016, Tai Chi Australia will host a joint practice with a group of 30 Japanese Tai Chi practitioners.

The practitioners are from the Japan Health Tai Chi Association (JHTA) (www.taijiquan.or.jp). (www.fedsquare.com/venue-hire/flinders-st-amphitheatre).

Japan has the 2nd largest number of Tai Chi practitioners in the world.  JHTA is the oldest and largest health Tai Chi school in Tokyo.  Japanese practitioners are recognized for their technical skills in particular, their attention to detail and synchronised co-ordination when working in a group.

The joint demonstration will include the bare-hand forms of Yang and Dong Yue Styles, Tai Chi Sword, Broad Sword, Stick, Da Dao, Xing Yi and Health Qigong forms.

All TCA students are welcome to join the demonstrations either as a spectator or participant. Don’t miss this rare opportunity.  It is an ideal time to meet Japanese Tai Chi practitioners, practice together, learn from each other and establish new friends. TCA students please wear a TCA shirt with black pants.

Thank you to Federation Square for its continued support and for giving TCA and JHYA the chance to practice at Melbourne’s most prominent location and the home of Tai Chi in the City.

They were joined by Tai Chi practitioners of all nationalities, languages and ages in multiple venues around the world including 50 cities across China, 18 cities in Australia, Canada, Chile, Czechoslovakia, France, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain and USA.
