Tara with students of the Las Vegas Kung Fu Academy.
Las Vegas might be The City of Sin and CSI, but off-the-strip it’s also home to a blossoming Tai Chi community. One of our instructors, Tara, has just returned from a work trip to Las Vegas and in her spare time, took the opportunity of developing a sister-school relationship with the Las Vegas Kung Fu Academy.
The Las Vegas Kung Fu Academy is a mixed martial arts school run by Kevin and Renee Kawada. The school teaches Shuai Jiao (Chinese Wrestling), Wing Chun Kung Fu, Shaolin Kung Fu, Lion Dancing, Taiji Chin Na (Tai Chi Joint Manipulation Skills) and Taijiquan. Unlike Tai Chi Australia, the school has a large number of junior students; from as young as 4 years old, who are known as Little Dragons. While there are many differences between our two schools, the overriding similarity is the fact that all the students are there to enjoy themselves, to learn, to push their own boundaries, but above all, share in an amazing art and experience.
Tara was very honoured to be asked to run a Taijijian Workshop for 15 of the Tai Chi students who are now very keen to meet their Australian counterparts. We would like to take this opportunity of thanking Kevin, Renee and all the students of the Las Vegas Kung Fu Academy for looking after Tara and making her feel so welcome. So, if you ever end up in The City of Sin, please make sure you drop in and say hello to everyone at our sister school. Viva Las Vegas!!
