Health Qigong Exercise Therapy Workshops

Conducted by Professor Xiaojun WANG from the Chinese Health Qigong Association

2 - 3 and 9 July 2016

“Knowing spirit and Qi makes a long life possible.
Protect and nourish the imaginary embryo to build up spirit and Qi.
When spirit moves the Qi moves; where spirit ceases the Qi ceases.
To have a long life, spirit and Qi must mutually interact.”

Professor Xiaojun Wang

These workshops are designed to reduce stress and hypertension prevalent in 21st century western society due to a competitive and driven life style, poor diet, lack of exercise, insomnia and intervention by mankind to the environment.

For thousands of years Health Qigong Exercise Therapy has been used as a prescription and rehabilitation as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to treat stress and chronic diseases and improve blood and Chi (energy flow) circulation and related diseases.

Researchers worldwide are recognising the benefits of TCM and believe Chi flow along meridians in the body is central to a person’s health and wellbeing. Illness is attributed to restricted Chi. This concept is the basis for Qigong. By strengthening and directing the Chi, health and wellbeing is enhanced and the chance of illness is reduced.

What is Qigong?

Qigong is a complete health system and an integral component of ancient Chinese medicine. Practiced daily in over 70 countries, it has helped millions of people with severe and lingering health problems by improving breathing and blood flow, increasing muscular efficiency, co-ordination and flexibility, and stimulating the immune system.

Health Qigong Therapy is a low impact physical exercise that includes deep diaphragmatic breathing as a meditation technique. It is designed to guide and induce Chi throughout the body to balance the Yin and Yang promoting health and a greater sense of wellbeing, prolonging the quality of life.

These workshops will offer inspiration and practical knowledge in an Eastern approach to health and wellbeing. By working through different movements the relationship between each movement and Chinese medicine theory will be understood. The gentle flowing movements create harmony and health for body and mind.

The Qigong Exercise Therapy for Neck Pain (Cervical Spondylosis) gives pain relief to the muscles, ligaments and tendons in the neck and shoulders.

Eight movements are performed in a standing position. They are simple to learn and suitable for people of all ages. They take eight to ten minutes to complete. The Qigong Exercise Therapy for Neck Pain relieves pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons in the neck and shoulders and focuses on the cultivation of the smooth flow of Chi to help circulation. Workshop 2: Qigong Exercise Therapy for Back Pain

The Qigong Exercise Therapy for Back Pain is adapted mainly from Health Qigong Yi Jin Jing (Twelve Limbering Exercises). It is designed to stretch the muscles, ligaments and tendons in the back.

In ancient China, the monk Bodhidharma became aware that the sedentary lifestyle of the meditating monks at the Shaolin Temple was leading to poor health and Chi flow. He created a limbering form by combining Martial Arts and Dao Yin Qigong.

Most people experience back pain at some stage in their life where muscles from all parts of the spine tighten. Chronic back pain causes physical, mental, emotional and spiritual exhaustion. Mobility is limited and muscle strength is reduced. Fingers, toes, arms and legs can become numb, headaches occur, vision may be blurred and dizziness occurs.

Five movements are performed in a standing position. It is simple to learn and suitable for people of all ages. It takes eight to ten minutes to complete. It focuses on cultivating Chi circulation which promotes improved function of internal organs , the smooth flow of Chi, improved circulation and improving and maintaining general health well being./p>

Workshop 3: Health Qigong Exercise Therapy for Stress and Hypertension

Today, stress and hypertension are common, driven by a hectic life style, poor diet, lack of sleep and not enough exercise. The Chi is blocked.

The Health Qigong Exercise Therapy for Stress and Hypertension is based on the Liu Zi Jue (Six Healing Sounds) Qigong. The Liu Zi Jue breathing exercise dates back to the Taoist Monks in 200 BC. Healing sounds focus on a particular body organ. The use of the throat and the oesophagus releases excessive heat from the organs. The shaping of the mouth and tongue resonates the sound, which stimulates the organ’s function.

The Health Qigong Exercise Therapy for Stress and Hypertension was created by Professor Wang Xiaoijun, at the Beijing Sport University. It consists of five simple, easy to learn movements incorporating proven breathing techniques and healing sounds to stimulate heart and related organs.

The coordination of physical movement with the sound, allows breathing to become spontaneous and free allowing oxygen to increase in the blood. The Health Qigong Exercise Therapy for Stress and Hypertension is a simple, powerful tool that helps reduce hypertension and stress, promote energy levels, physical and emotional healing, the regulation of blood and Chi circulation and balancing the Yin and Yang.

Regular daily practice helps chronic diseases and improves cardiovascular function.
